Wisdom Tooth Removal

Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, are the last set of teeth to emerge—often appearing in the late teens or early twenties. For many patients, these teeth can cause pain, crowding, or become impacted beneath the gums. At Arlington Dental Care, we provide safe and gentle wisdom tooth removal to protect your oral health and prevent future complications.

Wisdom Tooth Removal Q&A

Why do wisdom teeth need to be removed?

Wisdom teeth are often removed because they:

  • Don’t have enough space to emerge properly

  • Grow in at an angle or become impacted

  • Cause pain, swelling, or infection

  • Create crowding or damage nearby teeth

  • Increase the risk of cysts or gum disease

Removing them early—before problems develop—is often recommended to ensure a smoother recovery and better long-term outcomes.

Is the procedure painful?

The procedure itself is not painful. We use local anesthesia to fully numb the area, and sedation options are available to help you feel relaxed. After the surgery, it’s normal to experience some swelling, soreness, and mild discomfort for a few days. We’ll provide detailed aftercare instructions and medications to help manage your recovery.

What is the recovery process like?

Most patients recover within 3 to 5 days. You’ll need to rest, stick to soft foods, and avoid activities like smoking or using straws that can disrupt healing. Swelling and minor bleeding are normal in the first 24–48 hours. Following our care guidelines will help ensure a smooth and speedy recovery.

Do all wisdom teeth need to be removed?

Not always. If your wisdom teeth are healthy, fully erupted, and properly aligned, they may not need to be removed. During your consultation at Arlington Dental Care, we’ll evaluate your X-rays and determine whether removal is necessary based on your individual case.

Had to get a crown replaced and was honestly dreading it, but the doctor and his team were fantastic. Everything was quick, painless, and very professionally done. The new crown looks and feels perfect. This is definitely my go-to dental office now.

I brought my 7-year-old son in for a checkup and cleaning and was so impressed with how patient and kind everyone was with him. The pediatric dentist took her time and even made it fun. My son actually asked when he could come back! That says a lot.

Went in for a root canal and left with my faith in dentistry restored. The procedure was way easier than I expected, and the staff walked me through everything beforehand. Super clean office, calming atmosphere, and very skilled professionals. Thanks again!

I recently got All-on-4 implants here after struggling with dentures for years. The transformation is incredible — I can finally smile and eat with confidence again. The team was compassionate, knowledgeable, and truly cared about my comfort every step of the way.

Had to get my wisdom teeth removed and was terrified going in. But honestly, it went smoother than I ever imagined. The doctor was fantastic — quick, gentle, and very reassuring. Barely had any swelling. Can’t thank them enough!
